A Moreton Bay Story
Where memory meets making; a handcrafted story of home.
A Moreton Bay Story was a project I completed in Semester 1, 2025 while studying Textile Design at RMIT.
This project theme and direction grew from my love of Moreton Bay, in Southeast Queensland, and all my memories tied to that place. My usual focus is creating for digital print, so I wanted to challenge myself by stepping away from the screen and embracing a slower, more tactile way of making.
Working entirely by hand pushed me to think differently about texture, composition and storytelling. It was refreshing to create something so physical and personal. Over the semester, I experimented with different handcrafted textile techniques, exploring how I could tell a story of “home” through texture, colour and layering rather than just recreating the landscape.
I also challenged myself to complete this using only materials that were donated, repurposed or already owned. I dyed, painted, and printed them to fit my palette and bring them to life again. The whole process was slow, intuitive and joyful. I stitched, crocheted and layered everything together until it started to feel like a fabric collage of my memories.
